Well that's completely wrong. That chicken manure wouldn't smell any better.

Actually I'm surprised they stopped at chicken manure. Maybe they should bring back the stocks and stick of few of the homeless in it -that would seem appropriately medieval for Abby.

The whole lower mainland smells like manure, it's the nature of agriculture. I knew an Oliver girl, Roseanna Fedato, a wonderrful girl, a blonde from the north of Italy, and when her family moved to Abbotsford I hitchhiked out and visited, staying in their apartment. Roseanna's little brother had a job as a chicken catcher, climbing through a multi-storied chicken coop using ladders and hatches, harvesting the nasty chickens for Campbell's Soup, (easily 25 years before any mainstream animal rights campaigns). When he came home in the morning after work there was no doubt where he'd been.

it's true, a lot of the Fraser Valley/delta area smells like shit. It's terribly bucolic.

It is a strange decision, I would like to know what the thought process was to dump the manure there - was it discussed in a council meeting

Oh, looks like Surrey ("the future dies here") and Port Moody also tried this tactic. Nice.

"Managers from multiple departments in the City of Abbotsford were involved in the decision to dump chicken manure on a known gathering site for the homeless, internal documents show."

Hard to know what the full story is on this one. I wouldn't condone this particular method, but if there is a camp drug users forming, then it's probably a good idea for the council to try and disband it. There are rehabilitation programs and hostels that they can go to.
