Is 35 too young for a mid-life crisis?

I have not been at my sunniest lately and whilst there is nothing in particular wrong, I am not a happy bunny!

Then it occurred to me that I might be having a mid-life crisis?

Pull yourself together woman!!!!! Mid life crises indeed!
It's your hormones playing up, have some more vitamins and buck your ideas up. Other people are counting on you!

Is it anything that a little pampering wouldn't cure?

Is 35 too young for a mid-life crisis? I guess it depends how long you plan living?

Would alcohol help?

Well, I think that may be the issue - my life is a wee bit soft at the moment, I would like to be more useful!

I'm pretty sure I had one when I was 36. In fact it was the year prior to the move to Canada which probably wasn't a complete coincidence! I was going to go to the doctor and get ultra-strong antidepressants but my wife wouldn't let me in case it messed everythign up with the immigration medical and we didn't get in!

No. I use to design websites. I charged a fortune and people were willing to pay. ;) That was a looong tme ago. I got forced into trading stock a couple of years before the dot.com crash.

It's not useful! Well, yes it funds my habits with minimal time and effort expended but it's utterly purposeless and alienating beyond that.

Come help me unpack!

I'm thinking of volunteering for the local 'Habitat for Humanity' - though I need to research them a bit more and getting back involved with a couple of environment orgs I use to volunteer with before I left.

What turns your crank?

Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind! Nice bit of sea air and some good company!

I think I'm dragged in lots of different directions and can't get on with things due to waiting to see what happens with my various projects.

no , there is no age for depression Beebop. Are you feeling helpless or /and hopeless? have you noticed changes in weight? either loss or gain? have your sleeping habits changed? are you finding yourself crying a lot? go and see your MD and tell him how you are feeling. You dont have to suffer . There are many ways that you can be helped. Antidepressants typically take 1 month to kick into your system so dont wait for too long.

i think YOONG would know more than me. She specializes in mental health nursing if i remember correctly.

Hope i was of some help.

No, it's bang on the money if you're going to croak at 70.

Re: Is 35 too young for a mid-life crisis?

Just after I passed 40 I had finished my OU degree and was feeling very low.

I took two weeks off, got on my bike and rode down through France, from Calais to the Med. I raised £10K for Cancer Research.

It gave me time to think. As it was October (it rained and blew gale force winds 7 out of 10 days) the ride was 'character-building'.

Since then I have ridden more miles than in the rest of my life and I love it. My OH encourages me (probably to get me out of the house) and now rides with me.

Exactly, I feel very self-indulgent!

I am very busy but it's all mental stuff, lot of plate spinning! And a wee bit too much time on my own this week. I should get out on my bike, the only problem with being miserable is that it is a real effort to do anything and then I only feel worse when my self-motivation fails!

I have to say the immigration stuff doesn't worry me too much as it is all too distant!

Re: Is 35 too young for a mid-life crisis?

There comes a time when we all take stock of our lives and wonder what on earth we are doing and how can we make it more fulfulling - that to me is mid-life crisis time. Wasn't far off that age when we decided to emigrate :p (Mmmm, wonders how many people actually do decide to emigrate during their M.L.C.:blink::eek:)

HWP - note that your crisis came 7 years apart. I believe there is a 7-year cycle. It's the stereotypical '7-year itch' whether it's relationships, housing or job.

A friend of mine's is so fed up with her house (which is lovely BTW) thats she is desperate to move. I found out that they have lived there for 14 years so I told her it's no wonder she's desperate as she has 2 x 7-year itches to scratch :p

This will sound really bad (but hey, I am old ;) ), but I don't remember your name/who you are. Have you changed it, or have I just lost more brain cells to dementia??
