Unsurprising that there was a little gloating - the American did rather seem to think the world owed her one after Torino. No, perhaps that's a little unfair. The US media seemed to think the world owed Jacobellis one after Torino - she herself seems to have taken the whole thing in remarkably good heart.

Bad luck? No, in the 2006 games, by her own admission, she was showboating on the final jump and fell over because of her own stupidity. In a race as prone to falls and mishaps as snowboard cross, particularly in an Olympic final, I'd have thought rule 1 was that you don't celebrate victory until you're actually over the line in first place.

Isn't gloating standard in competitive sports? Do Man.City fans not gloat if/when their team defeats Man.Utd? You bet your sweet bippy they do. Do you not gloat at work when your team receives accolades that your competing team(s) do not? It's only human nature.

Everyone enjoys a Man Utd defeat. Not sure about the work bit. More relevant perhaps is the fact that, so far anyway, USA seem to have taken ownership of the "Canadian Podium".
