Amen! Just dont forget that the most important thing is the etiquete, if you are hacking around and Ive caught you up, remember to let me play through. I hate 4 hr + rounds with a passion. What you wear I dont couldnt care less about, want to kick it out of the rough and take a muligan if you stuff it in a pond, then go ahead, replace your divots and let faster groups through and its all good with me.

Then there is the short game which in some respects is a different set of rules altogethar.
Putting is a game within a game. The main difference between my game and my brothers is he can putt. I cant read a green to save my life, most of the putts I do sink are misread and then mishit off line

Once you reach a point where you can hit is consistently then a whole other world of pain emerges in trying to control trajectory and spin, trying to hit a high draw into a cross wind or fade it around a dogled or to get at a pin that tucked behind a bunker. Ive realised that there is always another level to try and get too.

When I am hitting balls I always try and have a clear idea in my mind what I am aiming at, and whether I am trying to hit it straight, or with a fade or draw. Otherwise its too easy to whack 50 balls down the range in no time and not really learn anything. I try and spend at least half my practive time on the short game, so much of the game is around the green, and even if your are never going to hit it 300yds off the tee, if you can get down in 2 or 3 shots from 100yds most of the time, or even up and down in 2 or three from just off the green you will soon be breaking 90, if not 80.

The trick in stroke play is to play within yourself on the course, think your way around, play the percentages. Hit the shot you have confidence you can hit and dont risk something that may work but may add two shots if it doesnt. In matchplay its more set up in favour of having a go. I'm more of a match play player, if there is a drivable par 4 I cant help but have a go for it...

In that spirit I confess to having participated in and greatly enjoyed several annual iterations of the "Scotland Yard Golf Tournament". In defence of golf carts I would say that they're well used at such events. One strolls the course and periodically a cart zooms up and the scantily clad occupants hand one another beer. Hiking without the need to carry the booze, they should have that at the Grand Canyon.

Funnily enough, although I think beer is one of the main food groups essential for good health, I never drink on the course. I just don't get it. Some people say it helps them relax, but I'm more of the mind that the one thing my game doesn't need is alcohol.

Plenty time for beer after the game.

I walk/jog on a trail that circles a city run golf course. I never see people drinking but whoa! the scent of weed is often stronger than the air above a folkfest!

I have just started to play. $22 for nine holes and a steak dinner(friday night special). Half the fun involves holding up all the members. We always get a cart as it comes in useful to store the beer.

Dont be suprised if someone like me "accidentally" thins a 2 iron at head height towards your cart and says something like "Oh, sorry, didnt see you there, mind if I play through."

Was at the range last night hitting some balls.

My house mate has downloaded a very cool iphone app that enables you to film the swing and then slow it down and analyse it with fancy lines and stuff.

An interesting experience.

Cool,

It never looks like you think it does in your head does it!

I remember as a kid in the 80s travelling for an hour or two in a hot car with my dad and brother (who was on the fringes of the county team) to a coaching session in a shed in the cheshire countryside for this new fangled video taping thing Things have changed a bit since then.

I walk past people all the time thinking "Geez I'm glad my swing doesn't look like that". Now I'm not so sure.

Actually my follow through looks ok but my back lift is way to high and I am putting far to much power into the early part of the swing.

Back to my instructor in the office to try and fix it.

Love golf. Great game. Just wish I had more time and money to play it more often. Best score ever was 92. Often score around the 100 mark. Would like to break 90 one day but for me its more about having a nice enjoyable game with a few good chaps.

One bad thing about living in Canada is the brevity of the season. I used to play pretty much year round in the UK, now we're lucky if we get 6 months play in a year.

Top tip : Left arm Straight, eye on the ball.
Thats all you need to know.

If that's all you need to know, why are you not on the PGA Tour?
