BC are looking to increase, why not ehh!! Everyone does 130 anyhow. Maybe not at 8am or 5 pm but the rest of the time is game.

It would be nice if this idea took off and was introduced in other provinces. The key though is to actually enforce it at 120 or so, otherwise rather than reflecting the safe capabilities of modern vehicles on divided highways it will just encourage people to drive at 140 or 150 and the consequences of that could be devastating in an accident.
We all know the defacto limit on a 400 series highway in Ontario is really 120 or 125, even if its signposted as 100. I did 100 on the 401 during my driving test (pre license exchange), and it was far more terrifying/dangerous than cruising at 120 or 130!
Also I noticed that many of the proposed BC limits will be weather dependent, which again makes a lot of sense.
Fingers crossed this provokes some changes in Ontario, but I cant say Im optimistic that it will.

Signed the petition there iain
I agree 120-130 km/h is definitely better than 100. Seeing as you drive across the border and you see 70-75 mph speed limits it shouldn't be any less safe to do it on Ontario highways

Agreed. Doing 100km/hr on a 100km/hr road means everyone flies up behind you and then has to either slam the brakes on or dive round you.

At least BC can finally do something right... Its long over due, but to be fair some of these highways have only recently been upgraded to safely permit a higher speed limit.

I can't see it making much difference to be honest. Everyone drives at 120 anyways. I doubt very much that the majority of people will now increased their speed to 140 just because the limit has increased. 120 seems to be the speed that most feel comfortable/safe to drive at. Of course their will be the odd wanker who think that it is now okay to drive at 140-150.
What BC needs to do is follow through on their plans to enforce the passing lane. It always amazes me how many people hog the passing lane. It is a decent factor into the traffic on Hwy 1 and also could explain as to why so many people get rear ended on the Hwy too.

Yeh but that wanker is probably already doing 150kmh anyhoo. I agree with you tho it wont change anything just make it all legal. So I suppose the cops won't like it as there be less cash for Christmas party champers in the pot.

One study in the UK showed that increasing speed limits often reduced the average speed. People who might previously have done 45 in a 30 limit because they were breaking it anyway would stick to 40 when the limit was raised.

This should piss off the soccer mummy pace car knoobs, wow BC looking good and they don't even have a Rob Ford
The province says it will also bring changes to the Motor Vehicle Act to enforce the issue of slow-moving vehicles in the fast lane.

I think the cops should do more to enforce lane discipline than worrying about speeding, sometimes the lack of lane discipline on the 401 and the atrocious and dangerous driving through erratic lane changing makes my blood boil....im surprised there are not more accidents on the 401.

They can do something about the tit in the passing lane doing 95 with no one around them. Almost like they're expecting a left turn they'll need to take any minute now.

As for everyone doing 120 on the 401.... I drive the length of the 401 both ways every week and the other 400 series highways in the GTA and rarely see cars doing more than 110.
What I see overwhelmingly is me sat a 100kph (company policy and speed limit) Car crawls past you at 100.00000000000000001 kph gets 6 inches past the front bumper and as if I have been blinked out of existence pull back to the left and slows down to 98

: mad:
What Canada needs long before introducing higher speed limits is significantly higher driving standards and enforcement.
The 401 in the GTA needs active traffic management YESTERDAY!!!
Sat in the crawl gear in 6 lanes of car parking and the gantry sign says Express moving very slowly!!! REALLY?????? What Bloody use is that????
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!
