Re: Western Union transfer
I have used it a lot in many different locations. It works well and is very fast. Sometimes instantaneous !

Thanks I'm going to ask at the bank next week. I'm just trying to get my head around how it works.
The person I may be sending to reckons that they give you a "password" or "answer to a question" (??) for the receiver to access the dosh. But looking online, google search, they seem to say other things. Wonder if it works differently from different countries Anyway, I shall ask.

Unless it's changed recently, the recipient just needs their passport and the password which you were given when you made the transfer. It takes around 30 mins. Apparently you can do it over the Internet too. It's best not to nominate a particular office for the collection but just give the name of the town.

I see Western Union are trying to buy out OzForex which includes UKForex and USForex.
Many on here have used Oz Forex or its subsids.

Have you tried this BB?
Money Transfer Fees - Western Union Money Transfer Service
I remember seeing a Western Union sign at Prima Tanjung, close to Dr Teng's section.

Ooh thanks for the link. I didn't find that I'll have a read tomorrow.
Yes I saw that sign too. I assumed, maybe wrongly, that it had something to do with CIMB. It was near CIMB Bank.

Re: Western Union transfer
Fees are pretty high for Western union transfer, plus a very bad exchange rate. If the payment is a very small payment (few hundred pounds/ringgits), then probably ok to use western union. But if the payment is large, then wire transfer is by far the cheaper way to transfer money over seas.

Its smallish and a one off and going to a strange place. This sounds mysterious right ?

Re: Western Union transfer
Western Union already owns xe.com (has done for several years), and their on-line exchange and remitting service is fast and reliable. Several competing on-line remitters are even cheaper and equally fast, just not as well known.
