Has anyone tried Zona? It's good for watching movies and TV series. I've just moved to Nilai and have managed to keep up with the series 'Orange is the new black' :-)

I used to use Expat Shield, but found better performance with the Hola Better Internet plug in for Chrome. It plays the flash streams on the BBC website with no problems.

Forgive my total ignorance on this, but is there any problem with running both Firefox and Chrome on a laptop? I see that Hola only works on Chrome? regards, Clueless in Penang

Not really a problem. You will need to pick one as your default browser anyway, but apart from that you can just open the other when you need it.

I used to use Firefox, but dumped it when Chrome came out because it is faster and better in many ways. The only reason I could see to remain on Firefox is if you have extensions which aren't available under Chrome.

OK you've convinced me....I'll try out Chrome over the weekend.

Faster sounds good, though probably impossible at the moment. TM is so so slooooow the last couple of weeks. Driving me nuts.

Not sure what your standard broadband speed is up by your end of the island. Down at my end the new apartments are all fibre, so just use copper cabling from the comms room to the individual apartments.

This is why I get a steady 5Meg (TM Unifi package for 149RM / month).

You'll struggle to watch BBCiPlayer and stuff from the UK unless you have a steady 2Meg downstream bandwidth.

Find out what your actual speed is using SpeedTest

That's pretty shitty I must admit, but I know that Mike up at BF was always complaining about the same thing.

Hey Ho! The problems of living in Paradise!

Give it a go as you might be surprised. I know Jane over at Miami Green always managed to watch her Brit TV stuff without too much problem.

You can always download a programme and see if that works. Fortunately here in Nijmegen I'm still in the shadow of the UK satellite network, so just plug in my Freesat box and away I go.

What do you mean "Do I have a TV license"?

[UPDATE] - Actually today is a crap day for doing anything involving the BBCiPlayer - It's broke.

When in Singapore I use expatshield and a free 1Mbps internet connection.
With this I can watch live sport, BBC iPlayer and any old tv programmes I like without any buffering. And the quality is good.

Guys I know on another forum tell me this isn't possible and I need at least 20Mbps.

What can I say except 'it works for me'.

If I have to download updates for Windows or my AV programmes etc it does take a bit of time but no big deal.

When on holiday in Europe with internet connections of close to 30Mbps in the gites or apartments we stay in I just can't tell any difference when surfing the net or watching live sport etc with my 1Mbps connection in Singapore.

Below is the results for my speed test from where I live in UK.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/3635402649.png

No great speed etc I admit but I pay the equivalent of S$5 per month compared to my free connection in Singapore.
And again I can't tell any difference when surfing the web or watching live sport, BBC iPlayer etc.

I'm only on a free 1 Mbps connection and everything works fine with no buffering for iplayer or anything else. I am in Singapore but don't see that that should make a difference.
Recently expat shield has updated to HotSpot shield and for some reason it doesn't work for me.

So I was looking at another site, akchewlee Martin Lewis's MSN, and someone recommended ZenMate.

So I've tried it it's FREE took me less than 2 minutes to download and set up and it works perfectly with my 1 Mbps internet connection.

It's an Add on for Firefox and Chrome easy enough to find.

I've watched the latest series of Foyle's War on ITV play and Wolf Hall on BBC iPLayer.

Works for me and it's FREE

ex-reg; Thank you. Will check that one out. Currently I use Media Hint extension on Firefox which works great. But would prefer to use Chrome!

Well try the Hola Internet Browser plugin for Chrome.

I use it for getting BBCiPlayer from the UK in Malaysia and its okay.
