Too hot

When's it going to rain? It's too hot out there. Got to be soon....no?

And the water in the pool is too warm to give any relief.
I wonder if the folks in our home countries sympathise with us and can understand the hardships we must endure?

It rained here in Selangor today. About time! Irony is, our water supply has been cut! Don't know when it's coming back...

Wow, that's very clever.....or.....was it Abdul that sent the rain up?

We had a little bit of rain in Tg Tg overnight. I had a bit of a walk around the grounds this morning and it was quite a pleasant temperature I must say. Could do with a bigger downpour though.

No problem. Let me know when you need some more rain sending up! ;-)

Interesting how localized the weather is!
In Miami Green it was a very heavy downpour on March 20-21 going on from around 11PM to maybe 02 in the morning, even flooding some areas.

Dry as a desert here in Melaka
Good for drying washing I understand but terrible for the fruit trees.

Very hot today. Was parked up at the hospital this afternoon, jumped into the hot little car and the outside temperature read 38 degrees :(

There is a new real time app just released for Malaysia weather called MyCuaca - it's on Apple store and it has radar and satellite images so you'll be able to see where it's raining now.

Re: Too hot

Strangely enough - I know it is raining now as I've just ridden back from Dave's bash at Sri Ananda Bahwan in Tanjung Bunga in torrential rain.

Very cooling admittedly and good for the plants, but based upon the forecast I was reading yesterday, not due until Friday.

It seems to me that the "Too Hot" weather has come in early this year. It's normally March-ish then the south west monsoon kicks in late April-ish.

I'm finding it very hot right now (end January) or is it just me? No, I am past all that :sneaky:

Was out with friends the other afternoon and jumped in my car and it said outside temperature was 40 degrees C. This is a bit hot, no?

I think that car temperature gauges read over-hot, especially in direct sunlight. Something to do with being encased in a block of metal I think, which makes the readings higher because of conduction.

This is why professional weather stations tend to be wooden structures with slats like beehives to let air circulate.

According to my weather chart the peak this week has been about 33 degrees C and that is close to my indoor temperature gauge.

Yesterday's and last weeks' weather in George Town, Malaysia

The local people constantly complain about the heat. I can't compare as I was not here in January 2015. But when you ask how many degrees it gets cooler later in the year (on average) I get a reply that it is only a few degrees. I wonder whether that really will make any difference?

Depending where you are, temps can drop to low 20s Celsius in wet season and up to high 30s low 40s in dry season

I was referring to Penang, more precisely to Tanjung Tokong and surrounding areas.

I think it's more the fact that it's a few degrees higher and a lot more humid, and that makes a big difference.

 why the aggro? No not just mt Kinabalu. In Sarawak, by the beach, at sea level, in December rainy season, it regularly drops to daytime temperatures of 21-23 c. In summer, which is also dry season for us, we get up to about 42c on the super hot days (and when the burning happens....)

I think Penang and especially Tanjong Tokong suffers from the urban heat island problem. Too much concrete which absorbs the heat and not enough trees which give shade and cooling.

#IVV were you being sarcastic, ironic or sardonic? Either way I'm sure there was no offence intended.

Well now there's a tough one. Given I was responding to a comment which was, on the one hand, somewhat vague it could be I was being sardonic. On the other hand, given this thread is about Penang and we don't get temperatures in the low 20's, it could be I was being being sarcastic. Which is all rather ironic, don't you think?

You could be correct about the urban heat island problem. Plenty of concrete around here, and even more under development.

Up at Kek Lok Si you can feel this effect on a smaller scale, way hotter than the Botanic Gardens!

Please help me understand where this thread was specifically about Penang, given the number of different locations mentioned even on the 1st page?

Actually you know, please don't. I don't know why I bothered coming back to this forum given the hostility I encounter.

A lot of people are attracted to this forum for help, advice and general information, often without making any contribution. Posts that are inaccurate or incorrect are quickly corrected. Where a post is vague, the sardonic side of British humour usually ensures a tongue in cheek response.

Far better that you comment 'Here in 《insert location》the temperature can range from X to Y' than to give some vague response. I have never been there but I understand that in the Arabian desert it can be blisteringly hot during the day and freezing at night, which beats your original reply by quite some margin.

OS I don't know your nationality, maybe you are not English and struggle with our humour. And yes, I know the forum is open to all not just Brits living in Penang on an MM2H visa. We just happen to nothing better to do other than to be prolific posters. Don't go and don't be so sensitive but do think about your posts, are they helpful, accurate and correct?

It's that time of the year again. Maybe it's because I've been away, but isn't it much hotter than usual? I saw a farcebooker mention 38 degrees C and the humidity is of course off the scale in March. My aircon units are groaning.

It is indeed hotter. The newspapers talk about heatwave and are speculating whether the schools should remain closed (or refrain from outdoor activities) next week. The heatwave is supposedly going to continue until the end of the month. Changes will take place in April, when the weather patterns slowly change from a north-eastern monsoon to a south-western one.
