RedDragon.... A family of four, two adults, two kids. 2400rm monthly equates to roughly ........ 200aud weekly!
Good on you for managing on $200 a week for four. I used to be mostly an Aldi shopper with fruit and veg from the market or from my garden. I still couldnt come in under 250... Would love it if my kids ate Asian style food but sadly not (apart from the odd stir fry)..

A rough break down of our living costs in KL
Rent 8000rm per month (but u can spend less)
Elec 400 pm
Gas 30 per three months
Water 20 pm
Astro 80 pm
Tm unifi (internet and phone) 150 pm
Petrol 150 pm
Supermarket 1800 pm (but I dont shop at the markets as I should. This is for 2 adults and two young children).
Pay as you go mobile. 60 pm
Road tax 90 per year!!
Car insurance (comp) 1000 per year
Hope this helps...
On top are any other going out/entertainment costs.

Food has gone up a bit. And we have a second car (SUV), road tax higher at 900. I think rents have stabilised, good deals to be had.

Hi
My expenses are similar to above, except my rent is RM1800 and weekly shop costs us RM200-RM250 (family of four).

Honestly this kind of question about cost of living , cannot be answered without thoroughly check your salary in comparison with ur intended lifestyle....
In a worst case scenario ....your salary might be in a disadvantage position working here....

What i mean is everything is goin up nowdays, everyday, everyminute..(dont you agree?)
It's all depends on your lifestyle, lifestyle, lifestyle....
Honestly no one cant advice someone else about this cost of living issues...
I dont want to be blame later...responsible for giving such bad advice...
Hey...i can give you here right now a "comfortable answer" that RM4000 is enough, but that's based on my lifestyle...
A fren of mine will said RM4000 will never been enough...
* oh...dont you hear the rumours that Malaysia will implement GST tax more in the near future...
meaning high premium products and service more likely have to be taxed..

You will always have inflation I guess. Apart from that, I cannot say I have noticed big increases in the last 3 years I've been living here. But as you say depends on lifestyle.
It's all comparative though isn't it.
My hairdresser has just put prices up (been same since I arrived). Gone up from RM 26 to RM 28 (cut, wash, blowdry). It's still less than I was paying 10 years ago in ol Blighty.

Recent 5 day hospital stint has cost me $13k so guess my COL is going
BB My wife just had her cut wash blow dry colour for $120 AUD. So hopefully that is a decrease in COL
