Default learning to drive in KL

Dear all,

We are coming to Sepang area in August as I have a job at a new school. I'm bringing teenager who will be 17 during my two year contract. As expats would you think it a consideration for her to learn to drive out here?

I've told her she will need to have lessons all over again on our return, but she had a valid point, better to have the experience and practice under my belt than nothing...

Thoughts?

Thanks Lou

I don't know about Sepang, but here in Melaka they have a driving school. This is all on one site and there are roads laid out with central white lines, marked T-junctions, traffic lights and even a hill. They do also take learners out onto the roads. As far as I know, the lessons are conducted primarily in Bahasa Melayu and I believe the driving test is also conducted in Malaysian. My (Malaysian) wife took and passed her practical test in January having previously passed the theory test. I think she only had 1 full day on the theory and the test at the end of it. On passing the driving test, you must display 'P' plates for, I think, 2 years - I don't know as we haven't got any for my wife yet!

Thanks Bluenose1, this might cause an issue, will have to see how she gets on with her language lessons.

Great info. Thanks. Lou
