Can anyone recommend best places to see and things to do( or totally avoid) on island of Langkawi please? taxis the only way to get about, i'm thinking.
wife and myself travelling there from Sungai Petani just to check it out for few days.not sure wether to get taxi direct to ferry port at Kuala Kedah, or drive to KK and leave car parked there for the duration.
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers,
Kenny

Take some sea sickness pills. The sea can quite rough! Alternatively you could consider flying Firefly from Penang.
It's worth hiring a car to get around once you're there. If flying then be aware that the car hire desks are all airside near baggage collect but before customs/security.

Generally in Malaysia we don't hire cars at the airport because they are more expensive, take Penang as an example.
We've hired cars in Langkawi a couple of times from rental offices near our hotels. No problem.

Fair point ex reg but especially at Langkawi airport where the car hire desks are all close together you can have a little auction. I eventually rented through Kasina for a really low price, way below their poster price and it was good fun too.
Going back to the OP, you really need to drive round Langkawi to get to see everything - maybe a motorbike if the weather is good?

But Kasina have always been good and near enough the lowest price.
Good call.

Admittedly I haven't been to Langkawi for a while but I don't remember seeing any taxis there.
As already mentioned, the sea can be pretty rough, especially this time of the year. Remember some friends who did the boat trip Penang to Langkawi and they said folks were
before boat had left Penang
not pleasant.

Left my car at KK and didn't have a problem with it, I insisted to leave it in the right by the entrance though - the guys on the mopeds try and get you to use the ones round the corner but I insisted on that one out of security. I easily got a taxi from the ferry terminal.

Kennyboy33. Would you mind posting, after you trip, on quantity/availability of taxis around Langkawi. I've had the same question in mind. Assumed it would be easy but BBs comment made me question that.
