Court overturns Anwar verdict - Sentenced to 5 years
Apparently the Court has overturned the acquittal of Anwar on sodomy charges and sentenced him to 5 years. If he is to be believed, all the charges (both the first time and this) are politically motivated. No doubt there will be another appeal!

Impeccable timing, and as strange as it sounds, 5 years is just after the next GE.

I hope I can be as politically agnostic as you two when I move to Penang - I dont see any other way to go in a country where we have zero say in what happens anyway. C'est la vie - swings and roundabouts, I guess

Malaysia My Second Home Programme (MM2H) participants for example, are not allowed to participate in activities that are sensitive to local people culture, to be involved in politics, missionary work and activities that are provocative and instigative in nature that could be a threat to the security of the country.

Yes, it's probably best to steer well clear of politics, and to be careful about what you say to whom in Malaysia.

Yeah, we are being oppressed and we know it. That is what happens when one stays too long in power.
