First and foremost IVV glad to hear you are OK. I used to keep a bee hive on our small holding mainly for polination but enjoyed the honey as a by product. They say bee keepers build up an immunity to bee stings but I went the other way.

Like Gunnar45'S friend my last sting provoked a very violent reaction diagnosed as a mild anaphylactic shock. By the time I got to the hospital I was coming out of it naturally but the doctor still gave me some pills to take plus a box full to have handy should it happen again. I sold the hive. My attack was mild but b****y unpleasant. I can't start to imagine how unpleasant your attack was.

My doctor has arranged for me to see a specialist next week and have some tests, but he is thinking it may be Quincke's oedema rather than full-on anaphylaxis. There is not a lot of difference as both can be extremely serious if not treated quickly but the onset of Quincke's is slower (2-4 hours) so you have more time to get help, whereas anaphylaxis is usually extremely fast (5-10 minutes) and within 30 minutes you can be at serious risk of dying. I'll post back when I know more.

Very glad you are OK IVV!

Totally ignorant about this, I found this website had some useful info on the major allegens:

The 14 Major Allergens - Anaphylaxis Campaign

and about 3 different adrenaline injectors (Emerade, EpiPen and Jext):

Care and Medication - Anaphylaxis Campaign

I have no14. I can't drink beer, and wine is a bit of a gamble. But if I get a red flush on the first half glass, I stop drinking that.

Close shave there IVV.... glad you pulled through!
I had a mate years ago that suddenly went into anaphylactic shock after eating a few prawns (which he'd been doing all his life!). Luckily his girlfriend was a nurse and probably saved his life.

There but for the Grace of God etc....

Update

Just a quick update on where I am with this:-

It appears I do not have a food or drink (yippee!) allergy although I am very allergic to Cypress pollen. I thought I had avoided it this year but the trees decided to have a late party and I caught the end of it.

The thinking is that something else came into play to aggravate this, so I have to have some more blood tests and, in a couple of weeks, I have to sleep with a machine on me (no, not that kind of machine JC3!)

All very mysterious. I have been feeling pretty weird since this episode which I am putting down to all the cortisone they gave me - apparently it stays in the system for up to 3 weeks.

Anyhow, thanks muchly for all the good wishes/advice and I’ll post back here once I know more.
