Not a new word for me obviously, but I discovered earlier today, the etymological root of "vaccine". It comes from the original vaccination, using the cow pox virus to stimulate the immune system to fight small pox.

Dr Edward Jenner used the term "Variolae vaccinae", Latin for cow pox, to describe his treatment to prevent small pox, and the second half of that entered the English language as the generic term for an agent used to stimulate an immune response, despite "vaccinae" have the meaning "of or related to cows".

Yes, the etymology of that interested and entertained me too, especially because Italy was an early hotspot for covid-19, and also that (cruise) ships grabbed a lot of the early headlines, and some were prohibited from docking.
