Had my flu jab today, almost forgot to go, the booking was at 10 past 5, usually I'mm all warm, watching TV at that time, A programme start, and I realised I was already 5 mins late, luckily it not far to go, so I rushed there, still open, still accepting people, so I got jabbed. Then back, a lot slower though.

Excellent. There is zero benefit to getting flu.

Nice work. My old man got his this week as well, he said if you ever want to see a cross section of society, go to a pharmacy in flu jab season.

Here in Spain we have all been told to stop asking for the flu jab. We have been told we will be told when and where to go and will have covid booster and flu jab at same time . Still waiting.

I had the flu jab about 2 weeks ago, and will have the covid booster in another 2 weeks. I didn't want to have them both at the same time, just incase there was a problem, and wouldn't know which one caused it. I had no problems with any of them, except the 2nd covid shot, and had a bruised feeling in my arm for a few days, nothing else went wrong.

OK, further progress...... having found that our car was beyond economic repair, having stood so long whilst we were "detained" in Portugal, I've managed to find a home for it - and to buy a new one. Three weeks without personal transport is enough when you're in the sticks! The used car market in the UK has gone crazy, due to the lack of new ones being produced, etc., so prices have zoomed - but I found one within warranty and with only 6,800 on the clock. It's immaculate - and although it's more than I wanted to pull out at this time, it's considerably cheaper than new. So, I pick it up tomorrow - yippee!!

Since getting back to the UK, the "welcome home" has been decidedly mixed! Apart from the Covid jab fiasco, buying a new boiler and now a car have definitely dented the financials - but it's survivable and it feels like life is getting back to "the new normal" .

What sort of money are used cars going for there these days?

A lot more than before! Depends the car, the age, the mileage..... but the old days of picking up a 3 year old car at half initial price seem over.

I just need a reliable small runaround and had to move fast because I found a low-mileage, just-under 3 year old 5-door SEAT Mii, with a year's warranty remaining at just over £8k. This is because the Mii is a sub-mini, so not popular as a family car - anything larger is a lot more expensive (in relative terms) - I was quoted almost £6k for a 2013 Fiesta with over 60k on the clock - and it was a diesel (not the most desirable these days).

Waiting lists for new cars stretch well into next year.........

I got some unexpected points at the supermarket today - $20 worth for a $200 spend.

I wasn't aiming for it but with a couple of bulk purchases or multi-buys to get other bonuses it can be easy to get there without knowing. In my case it was a couple of impulse buys.

At home I wondered why there were more points on my receipt than expected and then saw it

My receipt was $201 and some cents so I just made it.

Mind you, I'd have been mildly furious if it had been $199 and I'd missed it for the sake of a buck.

Calories consumed on public holidays don't count, by the way

That's amazing though, 20lbs is no joke.

It was a long, slow slog but worth it in the end. Thought I might treat myself to a bottle of something sweet while I watch the new James Bond film.

Monbazillac or Tokai only, with foie gras, otherwise no!

That sounds like a very good idea to me.
