We owned a sub-post office for around 5 years, back end of the 90s, beginning of the 00s, so we had most of the first day covers from then (including all the Millennium editions)

We had to stick the stamps on and address all the ones ordered from our office - I remember the first ones I did, the recipients coming in and shouting at me as I'd addressed them in pen rather than in pencil. Well I didn't know!

My dad was in the merchant navy back in the 60s, which prompted him to be an avid stamp collector for years, don't think he still has them.

I had a very big collection of British stamps but sold them after having not really done anything with them for about 15 years, had lots of very early ones, Victorian, and yes I had a penny black and about 30 penny reds of different plate numbers.

I used to think I did years and years (and years) ago when I was about 8 or 9. In reality I just had an envelope full of slightly unusual postage amounts and different colored contemporary UK stamps, but it was cool to sit and mess around with at that age. I did have a £1.00 stamp though which was quite a bit bigger in size than the other ones. I have no earthly idea where they all ended up though in the last 30 years or so.

Reminds me of working, as a 13 year old, on a garage forecourt & dishing out rolls of green shield stamps!

Only stamps that interested me as a child were the old Magyar Posta ones - funny that I should end up in Hungary 50 years later!

Never heard of those.

I do remember my mum buying stamps at the post office to pay off the TV license back in the 80s though. She had another set as well, might have been for the phone though.
