She is doing ok. We have kinda reached the point where she has recovered as much as she is likely to I think.

We have to be pretty careful with her and she still struggles with keeping some of her meals down. She is mostly happy though it seems, and that is the main thing.

Hi - this is Holly

Unfortunately she is no longer with us, she died in Jan 2015. She had a rare form of spleen cancer and we were told she would maybe live another 3 months at the most. She was around for another 18 months, due to an amazing vet who put her on Chinese Herbal tablets and antioxidants. Up until the last weekend she was bouncy like a puppy. But she died after her 13th birthday, which was a really good age for a Weimaraner!

We are finally looking for another dog, having got our house move out the way. I also wanted to get to the stage of missing a dog, not missing Holly! So once the new one is in place, I will post a new picture......

Ave atque vale, Holly (sorry, Latin GCSE and there's no real place to use it)

Are you after any sort of dog in particular now.

I am glad to hear she is as recovered as she can be. Even better that she seems happy, as that's all we can do, and want, for our pups!

Holly looks like she was a sweet angel. Good luck on the search for a new pup, and definitely post one up! As the others have asked, any breed in particular you're thinking?

Well first of all I was looking at pedigree dogs, cos I have always had them back in England - 2 Bernese Mountain dogs, 1 Hovawart and Holly - the long haired Weimaraner! I was always wary of rescue dogs because I had heard the horror stories of mayhem and destruction!!

But the cost - $2000 - $3000, I can't justify that type of money to buy a puppy, but I want to stick with the big, hairy dog trend! So I am looking at breed rescue, as well as other dogs in rescue near where I live. I have seen some lovely rescue Great Pyrenees, including puppies, and Leonburgers and I have seen some gorgeous Australian shepherd / Collie mix puppies. Got to decide....

Nice to see a bit of Latin now and then! Although Holly wouldn't have understood it, she barely understood English! I did used to wonder if I had been better off using German commands, but I don't think it would have made a huge amount of difference. I am sure all she heard was "blah blah blah Holly"

Maybe in the past rescue dogs were tough work. But these days, they're better, due to the fact they're looked after pretty well and have a bigger profile. I know for a fact that a lot of dogs in the rescues here go to a 'foster home', rather than the rescue centre, so they get socialised and live with a family for a bit, so they're good to go when someone wants to adopt them

You'll be surprised at the kind of dogs in the shelters, we got our Pointer/Australian Shepherd mix from a shelter, surprised she wasn't snapped up before we got her (she was 7 months old when we got her). Turned out, she had a 'naughty' label attached, when actually the issue was she just needs lots of exercise due to her breed!

I'm surprised how few people use Ancient Greek and Latin in training their dogs. Certainly room for improvement..
