Well done. It reads like bad news, but glad Ellie is OK I know its silly hot this week up there in the chilly North!

When we got back she was panting like crazy. Even though she is a stocky/strong little thing, I was a little concerned. I took an ice pack out of the freezer, put it in a cover and placed it under her. Her panting got less and less, and she was soon back to her normal self.

So glad you were able to cool her down. The heat can be tough on even a not so elderly lady.

I'm not sure whether Honey was commenting on the heat or my suggestion that we go for a walk!

During our winter walks we met a beautiful dog called Zeus. I don’t recall his exact age, maybe 2 or 3, or his breed. He was quite a large dog, gorgeous chestnut colour, smooth coat. One of his front legs had recently been amputated due to cancer in his ankle. He was still undergoing chemo. During the spring months we often saw Zeus playing with other dogs in the park. Although he ran very fast, he never quite managed to get to the ball first.

We heard yesterday that Zeus had succumbed to the big C. 😢

She isn't very cooperative with photos typically, but I got one before she realized it today....

Her grass is doing very well, better than I had anticipated.

That is an absolutely gorgeous shot of her. Have you a larger one. I'd like to see the face and lighting better.

Today was the debut dog mile race for me and Dani, our older pointer pup (4 years old!) We did it in a time of 4:37, coming second place to another pointer! Here is a race pic and a post race pic of us both, I'm so proud of how she did. She pulled the whole way and I literally could not hit the speeds she wanted to hit! Guess I better train to be faster next year!

Don't think I ever broke 7 minutes for a mile, even at my fittest  Built for distance, not speed. Lovely dog.

My daughter’s Cavalier has heart issues…she loves to lay out in the sun on days like today…unfortunately she has to stay cool.

Well done you guys. :) What a lovely dog.

Stan and I are well matched at an athletic level too. Couch to 5k other couch in under 5 minutes. :)

She moved before I could get a picture, but Charlee was on the bed on her back, paws straight up in the air, she is so over this heatwave.

... and why not? Eating and sleeping make up a high proportion of their daily activities. :sneaky: They do condescend to join me on my daily walks though...... if there's nothing better on offer (like a car ride, both of them are mad on car journeys)

Lawn? When it's mid-30s and no rain for months, you're lucky that anything grows (except thistles, thistles love it)

I've seen it that dry in the Texan and Mexican desert. In Europe, south of France, it was the maquis (the scrubby vegetation, not the resistance fighters) that lacerates the ankles. As below.
