She had obviously been a pet - and a Christmas puppy - abandoned the following December (Which is why she's called Lucy, not Lucky...)

I worried that Honey would react badly to sharing her "new" home with another, but in fact it has been the making of her. The two are now inseparable and one of my joys is to see them "play fight".... always instigated by Lucy...... she runs at Honey, growling, and then they set off at top speed, racing and bumping each other along the track for a hundred metres or so, then turning and doing the same thing on the way back! They do everything together and give back far more than they receive......

This made me cry... Sent it to my SIL in the USA He trains dogs during the winter months to supplement his income He has had quite a few officers come to him to train their dogs. He shed a tear when he saw this too. I don't know whether K9 dogs in the USA are given officer status ,but they should be.

I agree that there should be a much higher penalty for causing deliberate harm to a sentient being (although I'm sure that would be restricted). The current penalties for cruelty are ridiculously low - and some places (e.g. Portugal) are only just coming to terms with the fact that there is a difference between and animal and a table - prove cruelty to a table.... A crime of causing deliberate injury would help to protect all animals against injury or mistreatment.

But I don't agree that police dogs or security dogs should be provided with a higher level of protection - because, unlike their human counterparts, they do not make a conscious decision to put themselves in danger in defence of a legal code. Equally, I fear that such an action could see an increased use of dogs in policing..... since any attempt to evade them would risk a further charge for the alleged criminal. Simple changes can have complex results.......

She has a very spunky personality.

She turns 5 in November noticed a couple grey hair under her chin today. 5 years for a dog is apparently 36 in human years so almost my age lol
