Default Favourite Sayings, Quotes, etc

Mine at the moment is "In a world where you can be anything, be kind" although I like a lot more in a similar vein. Anyone else?

That's a hard one Sparkles, I have lots! I quite like 'Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else', but then again I'm a bit of a cynic

I like yours

The mother of a good buddy of mine in college used to tell us before going out: "check yourselves before you wreck yourselves, boys".

These Ice Cube lyrics are a hard thing to argue with when you apply it to almost any situation.

When offered something okay but not great, my grandad always used to say "better than a poke in the eye with a pointed stick." Not deep and meaningful but still makes me chuckle 😁

When offered something rubbish or to do something rubbish I find not many people have heard the phrase "I'd rather shit in my hands and clap"...which generally gets a chuckle.

Before going out:

"Spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch"

Not me of course, since I lack a key ingredient there, but heard among men of a certain generation.

Now I'm trying to work out if that's a compliment or not.

I've only ever heard that in the context of that forming-the-sign-of-the-cross benediction thing that priests and congregants do in some Christian churches. Certainly not something I would have contemplated giggling at as a schoolboy, oh no, not in the least!

My grandmother's mantra on eating healthily but enjoying the occasional bad-for-you luxury:

"A little of what you fancy does you good."

""Who's "she", the cat's mother?" - said in response to somebody saying "she said this" or "she did that".

I've never understood what it was supposed to mean.

Usually from a parent and not showing enough respect to the she that you meant, most likely your mother. The possibility of being the cat's mother conveys you could be talking about just any old she.

I don't remember my dad saying it, only my mum, so one of us brothers must have said it about her in her presence and she (not the cat's mother ) must have responded while dad wasn't the least bit confused or worried - and probably caught it later
