Yes, Depay seems to be coming with a good reputation...there was never any chance he'd be going anywhere else in England, given his existing relationship with LvG.

Now, a double swoop on Dortmund for Hummels and Gundogan, and then all we'll need is a striker and a right-back...

1) Continue to loan out player until end of contract - potentially zero outlay if there is fully carry of the wages. No transfer income. Net cost is zero, at best. Able to reinvest wages in another player.

2) Sell player for whatever you can get. Wages off books. Modest net gain. Able to reinvest in another player.

3) Play hardball on transfer fee. Fail to sell. Net cost is 1 year of wages with player not featuring. Not able to reinvest in another player.

4) Pay out accelerated value of players contract at reduced value. Player is able to make up difference at new club with wages that didn't have to also consider a transfer fee.

Obviously 2) is the best option, but if enough clubs were willing to try 4) (with players also understanding time value of money) I think the transfer market would get more interesting. Now I know that won't happen, so meh.
I agree with everything you're saying.

In theory if Everton are the only interested club I would expect the deal to be done for a lot less than 9 million.

Lennon is an internationally capped English player, a reasonably good player and 28 years of age so I would think Spurs may be calling a bluff that Everton aren't the only interested party.

Could have Lennon for 9.5 million boys? Gambling more money on a player not proven in the Premier League.

Have you been drinking flat Budweiser Light all day??? One football fan has the passion of a thousand Americans and "their" sports.
Yes, all those football fans who change their loyalties every season. One season a Chelsea fan, the next a Man City fan, then back to being a Chelsea fan.

Not saying North American fans are not fickle, but to suggest football fans are not is ridiculous.

And I drink Canadian beer, not American beer.

I don't know of a single English mate - past the age of 10 - who's ever switched allegiance. Not one.

Me either. Well, Steven Gerrard obviously. And more notoriously Robbie Keane. But then he's not English - so no one gives a shit.

My cousin (I know he's not English) did it twice. First he was a Forest supporter, like his older brother. Then for at least 6 or 7 years he supported Liverpool and when he was about 13/14 he switched to the Arse. I always thought that was a bit weird.

Wasn't Falcao also supposed to be the real deal as well?

I know of just one...he 'supported' Sheffield Wednesday, but once they got relegated in the mid-90s and he realised they weren't coming back to the PL anytime soon, he became a Chav, which I thought suited him (and his ilk) to the ground....plastic. Now he's running around in his Chav shirt, pretending he's been one all his life.....sad, sad man.

Falcao was a gamble, hence the 'loan' bit of it, y'know....? Alas the injuries have caught up with him, certainly as far as English football is concerned.

Much unlike say, Balotelli, whom the urchins are now 'stuck' with, we will simply send our little Colombian back to Monaco next month, and replace him with genuine quality...c'est la vie. No (real) harm done.

Ah Balotelli a man who in 54 games at City made a grand total of 1 assist (mind you it was quite an important one).

Sounds like a right numpty. So yes, perfect fodder for the rent boys.
