The Hamilton critics are prone to stating that Lewis is in the fastest car , so ofcourse he will win. The implication is that his wins are mostly because of the car.

While I do follow F1, I am not clued in on the technical side of things in regards to how the top cars compare. So is there really any difference between the Mercedes, Ferrari and RedBull cars?

We were told over and over again this weekend, that Ferrari have the straight line speed and Mercedes have the cornering speed.

High spot of the race... Alex Albon.

Low spot of the race... Everything else.

Yes. One example is to look at the cars side-by-side and you'll note that Mercedes has a very low angle of rake compared to Ferrari and Red Bull which are high rake designs. Mercedes have went for a fundamentally different approach to producing downforce for a few years now favouring a longer wheelbase design instead of using rake.

F1 is a team sport, you see a few hours of racing on a Weekend but don't see the tens of thousands invested by the race teams as organisations in research, development and logistics.

well you had 2 mercs qualifying fastest followed by 2 ferraris the 2 red bulls then 2 renault then 2 haas so that looks car related.

Put crashstappen in the ferrari and Vettel in the red bull and vettel is 5th not 3rd methinks.

Schumacher the last man to win without having the best car. Vettel and Hamilton won most of their races in a car that was dominent. Even an average driver like Rosberg won the champs because Hamilton had technical issues as he was the 15th best driver in markedly the best car.

The car is the star..

Unhappy Re: Formula 1 fans?

Whoever was supposed to be doing the track inspection just lost their job. Thank God it didn't get sucked up during a race when it could easily have killed a following driver!

To be fair, He is driving a road sweeper. It probably lifts the drain cover to empty it's leaves and twig collection bag.

What a cock up. Drain cover then the knuckle boom on the truck towing the car hits the underside of a bridge, dripping oil on the car.

The inaugural season of the all-female Formula 3-level (Tatuus F4 chassis) racing series starts on Saturday, as support to DTM at Hockenheim. Free to air on Channel 4 , at 14:45 UK time.

It'll be really interesting to see if Ocon remains reserve driver for another year. Based on current form, and excluding retirement, it doesn't look like there will be a seat available in either Mercedes any time soon.

I suspect the key to future moves at the front of the field will be decided by Vettel (assuming Botas maintains enough performance to be the Merc No2 in 2020).

It was immediately obvious that Vettel's opening gambit was never going to stick.

Just beginning to wonder if Ferrari should have swopped out Vettel instead of Kimi.

Desperate gambit was all they had, took the chance and it didn't pay off. Don't see what else they could have done
