But that is why he can't be seen as one of the best strikers ever as he hasn't done it at the business end where it really matters.

There are plenty of muppets who have medals, but I disagree to be considered as one of the best ever you have to have the silverware to back it up.

Anyway he supports Middelsborough what would he know about great players, great mercenarys yeah

We've had lots of great players play for us. Sadly, none were great while playing for us

Mate I'm afraid I know what you mean

Although the greatest defender ever did play for us as did half the current England team.

we are not talking medals here, we are talking about a great player.

yes Wayne is a Boro supporter (and if anyone on here should be slagging Shearer off it's him, local rivalries and all) but he isn't because he recognises Shearer's contribution to the game.

Not sure, there's so many.

Shevchenko, Van Basten, Pele.

As for english ones I'd put Ian Wright, Owen, Sheringham, Greaves of the top of my head all over Shearer.
I forgot Henry

See too many to remember.

I agree, Van Basten and Pele are better than Shearer, don't agree with your later choices.

Don't agree with Wright or Sheringham. Owen - maybe. Give him a few more years. Never saw Greaves play so can't comment.

Owen hasn't got a few more years - why do you think Liverpool didn't want him back

I'd like to think he has. He's vital for any possible england success in this WC or next.
