Mike Ashley's available... And he has money from the sale of Newcastle FC
The faux outrage at Saudi being involved is pathetic.

You're right, it started donkeys years ago, Chelsea being a very good, high profile example.

Still, the European Super League caused fans globally to go apeshit, nation like Saudi (whilst an improving country, a million miles and two centuries from the standards we believe are better)? Not much of a rustle. Fans don't give a shit if kids in Yemen get killed by their club's owner or if there might not be rights for gay people in the country their owner is from. Do Saints fans protest at home games about having a Chinese owner and what's happening in HK or with the Uighurs (sp)? No chance. Nobody gives a shit, so pretending to give a shit and take some moral high ground over it is laughable (not directed at you or anyone in particular, just general comments on what I've seen)

Lets make it even weirder as for a Southern shandy drinking Saints supporter you do have brain cells that make sense (at times). I guess that now with the barcodes having some money behind them that they won't be putting a bid in for Phil Jones.

Anyone care to discuss the latest offside controversy?
Spain vs France

Hernandez of France (white) plays a pass to Mbappe who is just offside. Garcia, the nearest defender, attempts to cut out the pass but all he can do is get a touch and is unable to prevent the ball continuing on its path for Mbappe to go through and score.

Anthony Taylor - Mike's 'favourite' ref apparently says it was a different phase. Collectively, the match officials are reported as saying that Spain defender Eric Garcia had deliberately touched the ball. Therefore, they treated everything after that moment as a new phase of play.

I have pored over the offside laws and I find nothing that says a defender touching the ball negates the original action - that of the pass from a team mate for someone in an offside position. in fact the law specifically uses the words *The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used. Note the use of the asterisk, because it follows on from A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
And then you get the situations where the player in the offside position - Mbappe - becomes offside - like the very first one listed "by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate"

The Mail's report says "As it stands, the rules currently state that 'a player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage'."
And, indeed, it does say that, but not in isolation. But the first thing about that is whether Mbappe receives the ball from the opponent? I'd say not. He received the ball from the pass of his team mate.

Now if Hernandez, say, had attempted to run with the ball and a Spanish tackle led to the ball going Mbappe's way, then I'd happily say not offside because the ball was not passed to him by a team mate. If Hernandez had passed the ball to a different team mate and in intercepting that pass, a Spanish player in deliberately playing the ball had, unfortunately sent it into Mbappe's path, then it would be onside, the phase of play now being different or new because a different attacker to the one originally intended as the pass recipient has been brought into play by the defender's action.

If the intention was to allow a player, in an offside position, not to be offside if he comes into possession of the ball simply by reason of an opponent touching the ball last, a very simple wording could be used. Something like a player (otherwise in an offside position) is not considered offside (or not considered to have offended) if the ball was last touched by an opponent.

That would save some arguments. But I think it's not included precisely because this situation is all about why offside was brought in in the first place.

So no Maguire or Varane for the Lesta game. Vardy must have a boner bigger than Blackpool Tower.

good call that one

A happy Scamp then? won a game and it's only mid October

Oh and if Sterling wants more game time he's got to do a lot more than that - he was apalling......

Yeah, in fairness, we hammered them for 90minutes. We looked pretty good and the boy Broja getting a start is so overdue it's great he's been rewarded with a goal. So much of a handful for defenders, although to be fair - Leeds were wank, especially at the back, they let Redmond look like Salah at times.

We need a bit of a run now, got a few of the teams around us on the bounce and points will be needed.

In other news;

City are shit, they normally beat Burnley by 5.
United need to sack the PE Teacher, I just want to see a top manager there who can make Pogba play football.
Liverpool are still the scum of the league but jesus, mary, joseph and the wee donkey Salah is a footballing god. Surprised he didn't learn all that at Saints.
Brentford must feel hard done by, Chelsea are either mind****ing everyone to make them forget they are champions of Europe or they're just having a few off weeks.
Portsmouth lost 4-1. Lovely.
