Always seemed to be an absolute professional and so committed on the pitch. I used to love watching him play.

There's also the record number of goals scored in the same period in large part to dominance of possession. I wonder if opponents having so little possession might hinder their chances on attacking City's weak link.

I don't hate him. He's just not very good at defending. He is fast, of course, and a very useful player to have when the press is beaten and a breakaway is on for the other team.
Errm our weak link is actually at the other full back position and most teams have attempted to attack us down that flank knowing how solid a right back we have. However, you are right about Laporte for sure, he had a great season and Otamendi, Stones and Kompany were competing for the other place. Our 2 best players were Bernardo Silva and Laporte across the season.

Zabaleta was a great servant to the club but his legs had gone hence Walker was a significant upgrade, fast as you say, great defensively but poorer than poor at crossing, an area where he is way behind TAA and Trippier.

spot on. Hibbert is an example to all, made the very best of himself. A complete contrast to the Ravel Morrisons and Micah Richards of this world who wasted the incredible natural talents they were given.

Big fan of Zab. Hard as nails and not averse to being on the end of it too. Great pro.

yes indeed that's why he was so well respected by Citeh fans and he was instrumental in our first few trophies. In effect another Hibbert as gave 100 per cent day in and day out.

Come on, I'm prepared to let slip your opinion of Walker (I've only watched him against Liverpool and I wasn't impressed either) but you can't possibly be calling Southgate a successful manager? The only decent thing he's done is drop Joe Hart, other than that it's been the same as any other England manager, playing the usual big name players regardless of form or fitness. And before getting the England job he didn't have a hope in hell of managing a top Premier League side, I doubt he would after either tbh, maybe Villa if he's lucky.

Yeah fair point that, well he's not in Pep or Klippety's league for sure but he is a fair way ahead of Bristol in football judgement, no?

Hey Bristol, I see you had a pop at Jesus on the other thread, why all this antipathy towards Citeh?

apart from that bit of getting to a world cup semi final, breaking the penalty hoodoo and following that with a consistent run in the nations league. It's a bit like what have the Romans ever done for us?

A pop? I pointed out he was targeted for a lot of fouls. Is it a pop to suggest he's not a the same level of Messi and Hazard?

Since Hazard went to La Liga, Jesus is literally not in the same league as Hazard and Messi.

I even said something positive about Jesus, if not here then the guardian. I just wish someone would disconnect that damn phone when he scores.

All amusing and quite cleverly put together but it doesn't answer my question.......

It's a reaction. What we see with City is the same as we previously saw with Barcelona. And I'm not having a go at Pep even though he was at both clubs. I can't say Bayern were the same when he was there, so I don't think it's him.

It's more so with Barca than with City who are, in this respect, Barca Lite.

It's the holier than thou thing. With Barca it starts with the old more than (just) a club. They are supposedly above all the usual negative stuff. At least that's the way portrayed by themselves.
But they are serial offenders when it comes to dodgy dealings, transfers, agent fees, underage players and the club is complicit not only in that but all the tax fraud that people - including Messi and his dad - have been convicted for. So serious Messi got a prison sentence but he was allowed to buy it off.

I'm sure City are not as bad as Barca but they still profess innocence despite agreeing to sanctions for the rules they broke and it now seems we have the explanation why they did that.

Like Chelsea, I also don't approve of signing all and sundry and loaning players left right and centre rather than giving them real chances to develop at a level commensurate with their potential talent.
Not illegal but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Their football is lovely to watch but they are not the angels portrayed. No top team ever has been total angels but no top team ever claimed it.

That should answer your question but it's just my opinion.

I'm from Bristol (there's a surprise) and I chose Rovers a long time ago, so there was never going to be a team for me in the old first div/prem so it's nothing to do with tribalism.

In different eras, I can/could get behind any team for a variety of reasons. Style of play, my heroes like Kevin Keegan, Bryan Robson, Glenn Hoddle, Shilts etc I'm afraid I've not had anything to like about City since Marsh, Tueart and Kinkladze.

There you go...a post from the heart.

Breaking the penalty hoodoo? Is that really something the manager can take credit for? Poor tactics and selection lead to penalties in the first place. As for the semi, the only person that can claim a semi is a success is an 80 year old with no Viagra.

If he has fostered a more positive attitude, yes.

That people actually like the current England squad in a way they've not done since around 1996, I think it's safe to say there's been a massive change on that front.

That's purely because expectations have lowered. Usually we go in to tournaments and the press are all saying how we're going to win, recently they've realised that's not likely so having more realistic expectations means people aren't as disappointed.

But that's not happened since, what, 2004/2006? We didn't qualify for 2008 and 2010 was actually awful. That's when realism kicked in. There have been no expectations since then.
