Default British Java Web Developer looking for 457 sponsorship

Hello All

As the title says I am looking for a company to sponsor me on a temporary business visa in either the Brisbane or Sydney area. I am a UK national over here on a visitors visa. I have around 5 years experience in J2EE web development and am keen to work in Australia. I am over 30 so don't qualify for a WHV.

I am still waiting on the results of an interview with a Brisbane company but feel that the sponsorship issue is going work against me.
From a technical aspect, looking through the employment sites there also seems to be a demand for skills in Spring and Hibernate, which I do not have hands-on experience in (but would be able to pick up very rapidly).

Does anyone have experience/advice in this area?

Many thanks in advance.

You might be better off asking a mod to move your post to the Barbie. Most of us that hang out in the immigration forum are either applying for or have just got visas and don't know the job markets in Australia.

For what it is worth, my advice, would be to stop looking for a 457 sponsorship, which is a bit of a long shot and investigate an indepedent visa. I am not in IT but I thought there were lots of options for people in this sector.

As per your skill set and experience, you are a perfect candidate for Independent GSM visa with 2231-79 J2EE Specialist category on CSL. Get your skills assessed and lodge your application online. You can continue looking for the job but as I have spoken to my friends in Australia and tried it myself, Its very difficult to get the job with the skill set you have. You probably can get it if you have some specialization like Enterprise Content Management or SAP.

I am also in the same profession as you are with 10 years of experience. I tried a lot to get a job for me but was not able to find one.

Good Luck

msabiransari,

When you said..."but was not able to find one"...did you mean couldn't find a sponsor or you were in OZ with all the required paperwork and still didn't manage to find?

Cheers

No, I was not there. I was in USA and applying online. Submitted my resume to different recruiting companies there. Never got any response.
