Red face Advice on finding employment in Vancouver

Hi everyone, I have landed in Vancouver Canada for nearly a year now, and have been looking for a job for the last 6 months without success. To be frankly, I am quite confused as the recruitment agents doesn't seem to work the same way as those in UK. I have registered with so many, but had so few feedback. I have applied for many jobs, but have only had a handful of rejections.
I worked as temporary Management Accountant in the NHS in UK, but are not fully qualified. I also have a lot of management and administration experience gained in UK and Hong Kong. I have a MBA in Business Administration.

Can someone direct me to the right way for gaining employment. This is a lovely city, but is very expensive to live in without a job. As a fellow British, please give me some direction.

Thanks in advance to those who answers.
