Visiting Tokyo with a toddler

I hope there are a couple of people out there on this far east forum living in Tokyo who can help me with this question:
My husband and I are hoping to visit Tokyo in April and will be bringing along our son who will be 16 months old at that time. I know the city quite well (I lived there a couple of years in the 80's) and I know exactly what I want to do while there (visit old stomping grounds). How welcome are young children in museums, coffee shops, pubs etc.? Most particularly, are young children okay in sushi train restaurants? Will a stroller/pram be okay or should we consider depending largely on a back pack? Naturally when I lived there all those years ago, I paid no attention to what children did or where they went!
I am sure we will find it okay, but any advice people can provide will be most welcome! I can't wait to see Tokyo again after all these years!
