Default How to send money from UK to Japan?

Hi,

we want to send our nephew £50. We live in the UK, he lives in Japan (Kyoto).

So far I've looked at the Post Office (but they don't "do" Japan) and Western Union (but they don't "do" Kyoto).

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

How about wire transfer from your account to his account? There will be charges of course and the amount can be as much as GBP20 depending on your own bank(s).

For £50 I would just put a £50 in an envelope with a covering letter and just send it Air Mail.

He can take it to the money changer in Kyoto.

Here's a reply I got from someone on another site...

"I'm in Nagasaki, but close enough.

I've never had anyone send me money. (insert smiley)

But if I send money I tend to write a post office cheque/ international money transfer (dunno the English) - only costs 2 quid.

Though I know lots of people use that LLoyds TSB thing - can't remember the name, Google will help. But I think that costs 5 quid, so I've always wondered why they bother. I don't think they realise how easy it is to use the post office.

What's teh post office like in the UK these days? International money trnasfer through them is the ebst I would think - knowing the UK it might cost about 80 quid or summin though."

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Some of those don't work for Japan but thanks anyway for trying to come up with a solution.
