On which streets/neighbourhood in Rome are the Army concentrating? To date I have seen one jeep driving past the Viale Aventino and nothing else!

They have not been allowed in the "centro storico", but you will find them at embassies (eg. Israeli embassy at Parioli) and stations (eg. anagnina).

Then in response to your previous comment - the Army are not in fact "patrolling the streets" or making their presence felt in any significant way in the city. So I'm not actually sure what the objective of this exercise is. I can understand that some embassies or even some metro stations may need extra security but since this is very localozed I am not sure how much these alleviates the fear that is reportedly felt by Italians/Romans.

You are right. The Army are not actually "patrolling the streets", although this is what newspapers are writing. They are just helping out in a few places. So it has a very limited practical impact for now. I hope it will be extended if it proves to be a success. If not, I agree with those who say it should be stopped.
