Question What are the seasons like in italy??

I am a student at Penn State delaware county and I am taking a trip to Italy December 28-January 7th. I was wondering how I should pack. I know its far away but I figured the earlier I posted this message the more opinions I may get! Should I bring mostly pants? Sweaters? some shorts? Are the seasons similar to the US? I hope someone knows!!!
