Hi
I have been watching with interest as SKY TV is now offering a broadband connection package in the UK. Can anyone (who is a tech head and understands these things) make a wild guess as to wether it might be possibvle to receive an internet connection through yourt SKY dish here in Italy? I am so bored of going to my internet cafe and paying through the nose but I can't get a connection at home as I am in the mountains.
Kind regards

Yes, indeed you can - although using a satellite download (Sky or any of the Italian suppliers) still requires the use of a telephone line to upload the requests for what you want to look at. I am, of course, talking about the regular home type internet use here, not large volume, incredibly expensive satellite to satellite use. So, you will need to connect via your telephone line. Is the reason that you go to an Internet café indicative of no land line telephone there? If so, a satellite based solution won't be possible anyway.
Far better for you would be to look for a WDSL service that might be available in your area. WDSL is a radio based internet access solution that is becoming more popular - and available - in many parts of Italy without either cable or ADSL. You will find, in due course, that WiMax services should be making an appearance before too long, once the contracts have been awarded by the government.
Good luck.

You can try this i used them for a while before our exchange was upgraded http://www.teles-skydsl.com/ but it does require a phone line and an internet account with another provider as it is a one way service down from the sat, Two Way satellite internet is not cheap. But quite handy and Bandwith cost money. but sift through these http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...G=Search&meta=

Thank you both for your replies. Indeed I don't have a telephone connection but today I have secured a connection using the antenna you suggested. It should arrive on Wednesday so fingers crossed I can get a service.
All considered once I am "on-line" all be it without a telephone is there any equipment out there to allow me to get any satellite tv through the web?
Appreciate your answers
Kind regards

There is Alice TV which is Internet TV but you would need a contract with Telecom so probably not suitable. I'm completely amazed that there are still places where a phone can't go!
