Default tredicesima e quattordicesima...HELP

tredicesima e quattordicesima How the F does it all works....

Lets say my wife gets 12,000 a year to keep it simple...Do they then divide her wage into 14? IF SO why is it then that in December she will only get a percentage in the "quattordicesima" and not he full wage....

So in the first year she is not on 12,000 but less is this correct

Hubby is now retired, but this is how his worked as far as I can remember. Some indenità where only paid for twelve months. Things like working below street level, tram etc. Some were still paid, but none where paid for 14mnths. And of course, famiglia allowance (not that we got any) etc is only paid for 12months as were any tax breaks. To make things worse for us, his employer applied hubby's tax 'conguaglio' to the 13th mnth cheque. Result ....crumbs.

So if you earn €1000 a month, you will get less for the 13th and little for the 14th.

It is confusing, I know. What it boils down to is that, for example, from the UK my pension payment is made on a weekly basis. It arrives every 4 weeks, and I get 52 weekly payments in a year. Therefore no 'tredicesima'. My Italian pension is paid per calender month; as a most Italian salary payments; on the 27th. of each month. This means that if I receive only the 12 monthly payments, I am still owed all the days of each month after the 28th. day - they add up to another 28 days over the year; hence the 'tredicesima'. It is not a gift or a gratuity or bonus, as some people seem to think. It is money you are owed; whilst the 'quattordicesima' can be regarded as a bonus, gratuity, or whatever.
ciao for now,
'o nonno

Hi Mr Posh,

I think it works like this.

Say your wife starts work in March 2011, the tredicesima gets paid in June and the quattoridicesima in December. In June she'll have worked for 4 months so she'll get 4/12 i.e. a third of the tredicesima (which goes from July 1 to June 30). In December she'll have worked 10 months so she'll get 10/12 of the quattordicesima (which goes from Jan 1 to Dec 31). Next year, if she works a whole year, she'll get the full amount.

I may be missing something (OK, brains) but there are three different, conflicting explanations given above for the tredicesima.
I admit that a similar question to an Italian tends to lead to a long pause, a furrowed brow and "Well, its the tredicesima."
I just wish I had always received 13 months pay a year.

Hmm, it would seem that way. However, Ononno tells the story of how his pension 13° is paid. Mine is for a worker who was/is taxed at 85% monthly and gets a 13° and a tax bill.:-((( Not all workers are paid this way.

Of course, the 13° is paid in proportion to the months you have worked the first year, but I do not know of anyone who receives it in June. It is, by tradition usually paid in December. That said..... And the 14° is paid according to contract and not everyone receives one.

Clearer. I bet not.

Oops, I got the tredicesima and quattoridicesima in the wrong order. When I got them, the quattordicesima was in June and the tredicesima in December. It does depend on your contract but I suppose if Mr Posh is asking, then his wife is entitled to them both.
