Default Sub Forum or Sticky thread for FAQ's

Just wondered if this has been discussed before?
I know that other online communities have all sorts of sub forums and stickys for frequently discussed or referred to topics but I haven't seen one on here.

Is it worth having something like that for questions about gas & electric, insurance & all the other general questions that keep getting asked?

I don't live in Italy yet, but I have already purchased my apartment, so will soon need to know more than I do now. I know there is the search function on here, but wouldn't it be better if we had a locked thread or something similar which the Mods could add Q&As and other useful information to upon request or recommendation?!

Good idea / Bad idea
Andy

I've seen this on other forums too. But I habitually go to the most recently talked about topics and like you say, do a search when I need info about something.

One thing I would say about Italy though is that with its continually changing politics nothing stays the same long enough for a FAQ to stay that current! In the 18 months I have been here residence requirements have changed several times. Plus the gas and electric prices keep climbing so how relevant Stickies and FAQ's would remain and how difficult it would be to keep on top of the changes, I don't know!

I`m afraid there would be too many stickies....

I started a thread in Spain with links to everything you need to know to move to Spain, but sadly a lot people are too lazy to read anything like that and basicly want someone to tell them.
There have been over 200 threads on UK cars in Spain alone, so I don`t think it will ever change. ;-)

Personally, compared to other forums I visit, not just expat forums, I find this one pretty tolerant.

I used to visit one for Pratchett novels, called L-space, but the rules were so onerous regarding posting - no repeat requests, read the FAQ's etc. etc. I never posted! It was way too scary! Like here you could read threads without contributing and people who ignored the forum guidelines were basically flamed! It was fairly outrageous really!

Another forum I visit has everything sorted into categories and the mods move threads that are in the wrong categories and people chime in when FAQ's keep coming up, saying "Search the site", but sometimes it's nice to hear what others have to say afresh on a topic. Like I say, Italy keeps changing the rules, so who is to say what is right one month is still the same the next! I dutifully got my PdiS pack from the post office and never used it!!

I think changing rules is a big time sport in Europe, the only thing is they forget to tell the officials half the time. lol
In Spain you take in every piece of paper you have had in your life and three copies of each, but they will still find a piece you haven`t got.
