TI tell me they have upgraded mu ASDL connection, i just ran a speed test and got the following results:- Download 6.04 Mb/s, Upload 0.70 Mb/s, Latency 38; is this this good ?

Do you have Alice 7 Mega? It's very good as I have getting download speeds of around 1.1 and now that I'm with Fastweb I'm getting 1.7.
Latency is OK too, the lower the better.
Did you use www.speedtest.net ? If you sign up, you can keep track of your speeds and compare them with others.

Yes speedtest.net.
I had Alice 7 mega originally then TI called me to tell me that had upped it, presumably to 20 mega, for an extra 4 €/month.
I just tried speedtest.net. in my office and i get 1.1MB up, 0.14 MB down and 409 ms latency. so i guess i'm getting a good service at home

So now that you've got 20 Mega, your actual download speed is 6 mega. Do you have an idea of what your DL was when you were on the 7 Mega service?

no i don't, but i can't say that i've noticed any real difference in actual operation other that the fact that the wi-fi radio no longer seems to work (says low signal strength) in the exact same location as it was before with the router also in the same location as before!

You guys must be close to the exchange. There's diddly squat I can do to get faster than 1.7 mega in download except wait for the 4G network to arrive.

I am surprised Duffer, up North you should be more advanced, the more south you go, the more deeper in the African jungle you thread.

I just got 43ms, 6.93 down 0.50 up on vodafone 7Mbit. The exchange is about 200m from me though. If you've paid for higher than 7Mbit, you should be getting more than 7 otherwise what's the point!?

cat amongst the pigeons time ??
there was a time when they talked about giving us Xmegabytes, now they talk about megabits - and there are 8 bits in a byte.
so none of it is really fast.
and considering the overhead that Skype demands its a wonder people manage at all
