Default Sling box

My old CRT TV, connected to bent coat hanger, has finally failed so I am in the market for new technology.
Has anyone tried connecting a slingbox to a TV in the UK and accessed it through a Wi-Fi enabled TV in Italy?
What would I need to buy?
How well does it work?
Any pitfalls?

Wait for Duffer to get into work tomorrow morning and I'm pretty sure he'll reply with all the relevant details. He's bloody good at all this Tv and cable and satellite stuff.

I'm pissed off with Toshiba as my big, flat screen Tv died after just two and a half years. If the big names are going to break down so quickly, I'll go on price next time and pick the bloody cheapest.

OH was looking into this solution Chris, but since you can watch all the channels through the Sky box now( or freeview box), he has given up on this for now.
There is another thread about slingboxes that I posted sometime ago-check out the responses.

How do you do this? I was thinking of a UK freeview box but this far south (Rome) I was told I would need a big (hence costly) dish.
Don't you need to cheat the system to get UK sky?

Chris, check out Duffer's posts in Getting Sky in Italy

In the same post you will find the info how to watch UK TV without an antena.
This is due to the TV channels being broadcast from a different satelite recently. We do not know how long it will last though.

Isakat is receiving the UK channels on her dish. Have you asked her for info regarding her setup?
