satellite broadband
is anyone using satellite broadband? I cant find out how good it is, I have read with tooway its great, I have also read its rubbish, the 7 gig per month sounds poor, is it usable?

He has since moved house and has adsl coverage now so it's no longer a problem for him.

its the only hope where I am going bar a phone dongle, we tried the phone number of the villa and broadband is not available, I read the using a dish improved from about July 2009 but its not cheap, dongle are just about usable for emailing but I need to upload to webpages

Hopefully reception has improved since then, especially as it seems that you have no other option.

I moved out of Rome and was horrified to find that I couldn't get adsl. I investigated all the alternatives and ended up just using a 3G modem with 3. My speed varies, but it's typically around 1Mbit/s and costs about 20 euro/month for 5GB. I tend to use about 150MB a day and I work from home and use the internet all day.
I looked at satellite and besides being expensive to set up, I read that the capping is quite bad. After 1 or 2GB they start throttling your speed until it's at dial up modem speed. They do this while saying that it's "unlimited" still. Also the latency is very high as I'm sure you've read.
I've also read about wimax suppliers and haven't seen all that many good reviews either, but there's no coverage round here anyway.

I am bringing 2 mobile dongles one on vodafone and one on 3 to see how good it works the vodafone seems very good in the uk
