Default S1 -now what?

Hi, I've finally got round to applying for an S1 to cover healthcare here in Italy. Please does anyone know what do I do with it when it arrives; do I have to take it somewhere here?

There are 2 things to do with it:
1. take it to the Anagrafe when you apply for residency (along with your passport and proof of financial resources). You need it to prove you are adequately covered for health care.
2. then take it, along with your 'attestazione di iscrizione anagrafica' that you have just got from the Anagrafe and your passport to the ULSS office for your area (that's the Health Service) in order to register for Health care. It's a good idea to have already researched which GP you want to register with. They'll ask you when you try to register.

That's what we had to do 4 years ago and I'm not aware of any changes.

Good luck!

When I moved to Italy I was issued with an S1 that gave 12 months of free health cover.

Now they have changed the rules so you only get an S1 if you are in receipt of a state pension.

If we Brexit they might get meaner!

Thank you Ruby2 and philat98. I've been a resident here for 4 years now so that bit's all done and dusted. I was told by DWP that I couldn't apply for an S1 until in receipt of a state pension which I started receiving 18 months or so ago (rather not think about it).
I am in possession of a Tessera Sanitaria that expires October 2017.
What I need to know is who do I take the S1 to??
Thanks
