Re: Ryanair suspending flights over ID row
Hi TR I haven't heard anything about this - what exactly does this mean? I think our next guests are flying with Ryanair from Liverpool at the end of January.

I've now been told it is only domestic Italian flights, so all should be okay, but Ryan being Ryan.....

Re: Ryanair suspending flights over ID row
Hi, just read an article yesterday on this. Aparently, the Italian authority allows other forms of identification ( apart from the obvious passport and ID) to be used as legal forms of identification when flying inside Italy, including a fishing permit!!!
Ryan Air is threatening to suspend all internal flights if the authorities do not budge. There was a suggestion that the authorities favour Alitalia, which charges a lot more for domestic flights than Ryan Air.
As some Italians commented, it is business as usual-kill off any competition and charge what you like..!

Suspension of Italian domestic flights from 23rd January
Ryanair, Italy’s favourite airline, today (23rd Dec) announced that it would temporarily cease operating domestic routes to/from its 10 Italian bases Alghero, Bari, , Bologna, Brindisi, Cagliari, Milan (Bergamo), Pescara, Pisa, Rome (Ciampino), and Trapani with effect from Saturday 23rd January 2010, following the lifting of Ryanair’s injunction against ENAC Ordinanzas (Ref No. 26/2009 and 79320/DIRGEN/DG) which require Ryanair to accept various unsecure forms of ID for passengers travelling on Ryanair’s Italian domestic flights, even if these ID’s comprise nothing more than fishing licences.
