Has anyone obtained an Italian issued international driving licence, if so can you confirm it is essentially an English translation of your Italian driving licence?

I have a full Italian driving licence and I need to rent cars and drive in Australia and also later on in the USA, for Australia the hire car company has informed me that I need an English language translation of my Italian licence.

They will only accept a translation from a certified NAATI translator (The Australian National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters). NAATI exists only in Australia.

An alternative might be an Italian issued international driving licence but, try as I may, I cannot get cast iron confirmation that an Italian issued international driving licence actually has an English translation of my Italian licence within it. I have been to 2 pratiche auto offices (one an official ACI shop) and neither could tell me what language (or languages) the international licence was in. Similarly with Internet research.

They never used to be in English. An International DL is essentially just your Italian licence in an internationally recognised form. Things could have changed though.

OMG,what a ripoff,I got mine in a UK post office in December in case of no deal Brexit.6 quid,it looks and was probably printed at the same time,as a post war ration book,lol. PS,I know this is a different scenario,but it comes under the same 1949 regs.
