Default Non biological washing powder for babies?!

Hello
Does anyone know where to get non bio washing powder here? Or what brand is non biological in this country? Or at least suitable for babies?
I've tried searching high and low and can't see anything in the shops which suggests it's for babies/ sensitive skin and since being here (a week) my baby's skin is terrible!!

I was wondering does anyone know where to get a non bio/ if something similar exists - a certain brand or something?!

Thank you!!!!!!

An old work mate of mine who was allergic to practically everything, used to buy from these guys ........

but you could always ask in the chemist first if they can suggest a product for your baby. Napisan is always being advertised for babies but I'm not sure if that is beacuse it is gentle or because it disinfects.

I use DASH. I have never worked out if it is non bio or not, but my children have sensitive skin and have never had any problems. There are lots of different types, the one I use has dark blue writing and nothing added.

I take it that you are back in Italy now?

Have a good look round a large supermarket and you will find quite a few products. Any bio store will also have products. It might not be the powder just the water being harder or softer. Detersive's contain more soaping agent here to compensate for the harder water. I used Le Chat products when mine were young. It was the only product available then and I don't know if they still trade. Make a note of the contents and you might find a common irritant for example, lanolin causes a bad reaction in one of my sons even though lanolin is a natural extract. We still do not use run of the mill creams as even Johnsons baby lotion causes problems. We use Bio Bio Baby which is readily available in most supermarkets. Don't use Napisan as it contains a bleaching agent (it's great for my white linen curtains) but do use a water softener if you have hard water -Calfort.

Julie, thought of another couple of things. One is nappies, try changing makes because they use various chemicals to make them so white. Aveeno products are good for sothing angry skin . The are available in supermarkets now as well as chemists. There are various products but the box of sachets of aveeno powder is good alternative to bubble bath. It doesn't make bubbles of course but it is very soothing. Their soap's are the only sort my youngest (he's an adult now) can use if he doesn't want his skin to peel. Your baby's face is a good indicator of whether you are using the wrong soap powder. It will look 'angry' where her face touched her pillow. I hate it when maker bring out improved formulas. My son will often get up in the morning after a new powder with a nice weal on his face.

I'm lactose intolerant and although I've improved over the years -many- believe me, you'd know. Your baby would be very irritable and unsettled although I suppose it is possible to be slightly intolerant. Unfortunately, if it's anything to do with allergies etc, we've been there big way.

hi julie, as a health visitor for over twenty years in the uk professional advice to new mums re washing powder for a new baby was never to use it not even the specialist types marketed. hand wash babies clothes in the first few months and rinse them carefully make sure they're hung out in the fresh air to dry (kills bacteria) put natural materials next to baby's skin i.e. cotton also make sure the bedding is cotton/linen. wool has a protein that can cause irritation to baby's skin so if possible for the first few months keep clear of woolens near the skin. this is only for the first few months until the baby has developed some immunity to all the new materials etc. i know it's difficult to get clothes clean without putting them in the wash but it's better to have healthy skin than whiter than white washing. other thing is don't put baby's clothes in the wash with all the other things in the household and never use conditioner. if baby's skin is irritated and itchy after trying these things then it's more likely to be an allergy. hope this helps

Wow! I was never told to handwash by a health visitor in the UK. And to be honest and think she would have got short shrift from me if it was suggested. Surely, if you handwash you are still using some sort of detergent so where is the difference to using a washing machine? I take it that rinsing carefully can still be done in a machine?
