Question Moving to Tuscany

Hello all,

Apologies if these questions have been asked and answered a million times already but.. my wife and I are planning to move from London to Tuscany next year, and we would love any help and advice you can offer!

Our intention is to rent out our house in South London (which we luckily own out right), and rent or buy a small place in Tuscany. I am a sculptor and hope to carve marble full-time for a year or so, and my wife is a very experienced nanny, about to get her degree in Childcare. We are both in our 30s with no kids (yet!).

We are currently a bit excited about a property in Barga, which an acquaintance is selling cheap because it needs a new roof! We will visit the property in August.

We have discussed this a lot, and are set on moving in 2017, but have not yet made any real steps forward. Any advice or comments are very welcome!

Thanks,
Rob

Can't give any useful practical advice, except to say that there's lots of useful stuff in previous posts on this Forum, and that if you have any specific queries you'll find, I think, that people will be glad to share their knowledge.
What I would suggest is to get a realistic estimate, before you buy, of how much you'll need to spend on getting the house in the condition you want. It may be a lot more than you think! And don't count on your wife being able to get work easily.
Having said that, Barga and the surrounding area is a wonderful, inspirational place, with a strong artistic community. We fell in love with it, bought and have never regretted doing so. But then we're retired, so our situation is quite different.
Does that suggest trying renting before committing?
You haven't got enough posts to PM yet; but when you do, and if you want to make contact after you've been over, feel free to be in touch. Happy to help.

Hi,

Bagni di Lucca and surrounding areas are also very beautiful and with good public transport to Lucca and Florence.

Are you looking to work for yourself?

I would advise that you live close to a large town or city or within easy reach to give your wife a bigger opportunity of finding a family.

Like the previous post id probably suggest you rent for a while to get the feel of the place and see if you like it - if not you will have your home back in London
