Default moving to Abruzz

Hi Everyone
This our first post.
We are moving to Abruzzo from Dubai.
We have heard alot of nightmare stories about shipping our belongings.
The container we are shipping is full of our used household goods, will we face any taxation bringing them into Italy ?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice
kindest regards
Rik

thank you so much for your response Linseed
Another question, to begin with we are just going to be tourist's, I am British and my wife is Russian, which I realise has complications, however we do have a relative that owns a company in Italy and has already offered my wife a work permit whenever she wants.
Can we buy a car in Italy being non residents ?
thank you all again for your help
warmest
Rik

Hello and welcome.
Are you yourself not planning on applying for residency at the Town Hall as an EU citizen?
Non residents can't buy cars by the way.

No it's not.
If you don't have a job here and therefore automatically paying into the system directly form your wage packet, you need to provide proof of funds to keep yourself and family and you need private health insurance because you won't be part of the Italian NHS system.
I think the funds are about €8.000 for you and your wife, probably a bit more.

Hi Lorna, once upon a time a non-resident could in fact buy a car here for export, on EE (Escursionista Estera)plates as long as it was exported inside 12 months. Is that no longer the case?

Italy is far more generous to mixed EU/nonEU families. Once you have residency, your wife can apply to stay.

Thanks Lorna
we are planning to get health cover anyway, the funds are not a problem.
I will still travel abroad for work regularly, but is it still better to be a resident ?

regards
Rik

Legally you should be resident if you live here. Electricity costs less with residency, but I'm not sure by how much. Will you be buying or renting a house?

If you stay in Italy for more than 183 Italy considers you to be fiscally resident even if you do not hold offical' residency.
