Living in Vicenza and want to buy a car...
Is it unrealistic to broaden our horizons to a 3hr trip away for the right car? Will it be a nightmare process and back and forth or can we do it one trip?

You should factor in an overnight stay. You have to do the passaggio di proprieta and have insurance before you drive it.
