Default Lake Orta

Hi, I normally spend my time on the Spain/Portugal forums but wondered if anyone here on the Italian forum could help me. My husband is 65 next April and he fancies going to Lake Orta to celebrate. We thought early July might be better weatherwise. We have looked at hotels in Orta San Giulio and Pettenasco. My concern is that as we don't plan on hiring a car, Pettenasco might be too small. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? We are both healthy and active and can walk or even hire a bike. We like nice restaurants/food/drink. We don't need lots of night life but don't want to be confined to the hotel. I have done Somme research on the internet but nothing beats personal knowledge/experience. Thanks for any help you can give.
Kath

We have a home in Pettenasco and although love the town there is nothing there. You should stay in Orta San Giulio, the hotel San Rocco is really nice and from there you can walk into town. Unless you are going for a few days you really need a car and there are some lovely areas you can drive to and do some walking. I know the weather can be unpredictable but July can be very so why not try June. If you need any further into let me know. Sue
