Default ITALIAN DRIVERS

This is exactly the same car that I drive .......even the same colour
but this is NOT me behind the wheel.....honestly! And I can park better than this too.
The lads filming this obviously found it highly amusing.
I think most Italian drivers are rubbish - even in this hick town - but I would be scared stiff if I had to drive around some other cities like Naples !!

OMG! You drive an Atoz, in a mossy, greeny kind of colour?! I had the exact same car in the UK for 7 years! I got rid to come over here, with 99,000miles on the clock I didn't think it would do so well on the trip over!

So, no, it wasn't me in the car either, although the swearing could well have been!

Ah, couldn't tell on laptop! It looked like the greeny colour I had. But still, it is an Atoz, yes?

They stopped making them for the UK market just after I got mine, it then became the Getz and then the Amica or something! So I was really surprised when we came here and they are everywhere!

Don't know how long you have had yours, but they just don't die!! I still had the same exhaust from new. Other stuff was slowly being replaced, but it was slowly. I like Hyundais!

It's an ATOS yes. I love mine - it was cheap - and it came with all the stuff that Italians call "optionals" and make you pay more for.
It's roomier than most people think and a very handy little city car - wouldn't want to drive around some of these streets in anything bigger. I also like it because I feel quite high up in it and get a better view of the road and traffic in front of me. Like the flat back of it too - good for reversing as don't have to think about big back end sticking out.
I have been stopped a few times by blokes in a car park asking if they could have a liitle look at the inside as they were thinking about getting one for old wifey !!!!
Oh - and they only time I've had to do anything to it was change the battery and something like spark plugs or whateveer - it was cheap anyway so couldn't have been anything major.

I know what you mean! Mine had alloys!! And AC - which did break, electric windows - which also broke thinking about it, but the motor cost about £40 to replace.

The best was when a pheasant hit the windscreen while I was doing about 60mph (you know, top speed!) and one of the windscreen wipers snapped off! I found a replacement at a breakers yard for a couple of quid and replaced it myself! I also took the mats, back parcel shelf and some other bits and bobs from the same car! Talk about cheap as chips!

What is really funny though is that my son is a complete petrol head, but because the Atoz is so rare in the UK he was happy to be seen in it! BTW in the UK it is the Atoz as in gets you from A to Z! Clever eh!

mine too has alloy wheels , air con, central locking, electric windows (all still going) - ABS breaks - handy little drawers under two front seats tec.
I have had mine 7 years now and the only thing that broke recently was the outside driver's door handle (think it froze and when I pulled it the hinge snapped).
At the moment I climg in through the passenger door (but that gets me funny looks) or lean in through passenger door to open driver's door from inside - or get the Chloe to lean over seat and open door for me !

What I'd really like is a really old 500. They really are Duracell bunnies! There is a yellow near us with Ferrari badges on the the front and back. Antonia really thinks it is a Ferrari! Plus it looks like Luigi out of Cars! The new ones are very cool too. Apparently a turbo version came out in March!!!

Here people drive those funny electric cars and golf carts. And, obviously, there are thousands of scooters! I heard there are more motorini in Florence than anywhere else in Italy - I think it may have been per head of population here or something, so there are 10 scooters per person or some weird statistic. But in the mornings it can look like a ride to Brighton on the viale!
The worst is when the go around the traffic queues by coming onto the pavements. I don't let them pass, I make them wait. It's so dangerous though and I have to keep a firm hand on Antonia when they are doing this as they would be on her before they saw her!! Stupid, stupid!

My car is a heap of junk but i dont know what i woul do without it. Everytime it comes to MOT time we always have to do major surgery on it to keep her on the road. The last time amongst many things, we had to get the passenger door unblocked as i had been driving round for 18 months with only the drivers door working ( its a 3 door so any passengers had to climb over the drivers seat as the drivers seat doesnt flip forward) and then one day the lock on the drivers door packed up and then the door wouldnt actually stay shut at all. I always get taken aback by the number of new cars on the roads in the uk. Round our way in my 3 door, 10 year old, beaten up punto I almost look stylish, and with the windows rolled down on a baking summers day it almost makes you feel you are in a convertable.

My friend replaced her car with a Fiat Idea recently - it already has a really big key scratch all down one side! What is the point of having a nice or new car here?! Another friend passed her test and bought a Merc A-class - it never leaves her garage for fear it will get damaged!

It's one of the many reasons I haven't bothered getting one yet. Another is the cost of parking spaces, permits etc. here in Florence. It's cheaper to rent one when we need it and get all the insurance we need in case of a prang!

There was an article about the permits for the historic centre in the English paper the other day. People are registering their cars to their granny so they can qualify for an any zone disabled permit! The example was an 80 year old, disabled granny who, apparently, drives a porsche 911!!!

Grannies with Porches - ha - that is so typically "let's find a way around legislation" Italian.
Nearly everyone where I live seems to have a brand new car - but I am living in what is said to be the most industrialised region of Italy and some people are so materialistic here that they would actually eat "white pasta" and "white rice" for 2 months in order to get something new to show off !!!!

I wish they did mother and baby parking in the big supermarkets though ..... but then .... I'd probably find a "figlio di papà " with his porsche parked in it.
