Default House Insurance

We currently insure our house in Italy in the UK as it is our holiday home, admittedly we are in Italy for 180 days per year!. However insurance is getting more difficult and expensive. Do any of you good people know if it would be possible to insure with an Italian company even though we are not resident?

Allianz is good - you need to have someone who checks the house every 30 or 60 days when you're not there. Otherwise Genertel - the online version of generali - but they also want a declaration that someone checks the house every now and again.

Thannks Modicasa I will give Allianz a try. We are in a centro storico so the house is under constant surveillance by neighbours and a team of nonna's!

My house insurance is with Allianz and I have to say that they were very good when my cellar got broken into last year and a mountain bike was stolen. Of course I had a police report, lots of photos of the crowbar smashed in lock and the perito / inspector decided that he didn't need to come out in person but sent me a link to let him see everything by video on my phone which included me going out to the font gate to let him see the number of my house - presumably to check that it was me living where I said I did. Anyway, they didn't drag their feet about paperwork or paying out.
