Hi from Peterborough, UK wanna move to Sicily
Hi all,
I hope to find you well on this sunny day, on your side anyway hahahaha cloudy over here.
My other half and I are planning in moving to Sicily in a couple of years. We've been looking at diff areas and what jobs we might be able to get.
Any ideas or suggestions on where is the best place to live and what jobs can foreigners get over there?
Love
Maddie

Hi - well it depends what you want to and can do...
The west is cheaper, more 'rustic', less work, less to do. The East is richer, more expensive, more cultural, more jobs.
Are you qualified to do anything? Can you speak Italian/Sicilian? Know anyone? I have to say, Sicily is not the place to come if you are 'first timer' and dont know any Italian or have a clue about how Italy works.

The job market is EXTREMELY tough in Southern Italy. Teaching seems to save most.

My family is from Sicily, I am in UK, but moving to Saudi in Sept... The South and East are both very slow and not a lot going on in the Job market, If you teach then a few international schools in Catania, Palermo areas but would you want to live there when the south is where it's at

It depends what you want to do or can do - the idea that Sicily is backward is mistaken. There are jobs if you are qualified, it doesnt mean they will be well paid. If you want to work for yourself there is nothing to stop you other than the huge burden of bureaucracy. There are other things to do than teach. You cant teach in international schools without qualifications.

Re: Hi from Peterborough, UK wanna move to Sicily
Hello to everyone,
Thank you for all your imput.
More details about us: At the moment I work as a Data Coordinator, I have good IT skills and I know a few languages. My other half works as a Training Specialist in Manufacturing and has an Agricultural apprenticeship.
Ideally we would like to work for ourselves but we dont have a big budget and we dont know how easy is to set up a bussiness or how tax works in Sicily. We are trying to learn the language at the moment as well.
Any advise much appreciated
Thank you
Maddie

Ciao Maddie, I did read somewhere that IT technology was now a big thing in the Catania area, a sort of mini-Silicone Valley. That is as much as I know; but perhaps someone down there knows more; or a bit of research and Google might help. Good luck anyway.
ciao for now,

Hi Maddie,
It all depends on how much you have to start with. You can buy a small house, ready to move in, from about £60000. A small orange garden costs about £60000. and will give you an income of between £8000and£11000 per year. I live between Catania and Siracusa.
My wife and I, are both semi retired, and teach English part-time.
