We would do the same. Anything under 5K we would pay and anything over we would make a claim. We focused on chronic conditions that could be diagnosed and would be costly.

So the public doctor will give you a prescription if you show an insurance certificate?

We have used the doctor once. A bad throat, Doctor wrote a prescription and we took it to the farmacia and paid for it. If we became seriously ill and needed hospitalization and/or ongoing treatments I assume we would show our private health docs and be covered. When we initially went to register with a medical centre they only seemed interested in our E111 despite us saying we have full private cover and live here permanently so our E111 is not valid.

I'm amazed at anyone paying £1788 for health cover and only over 5k claim?

Yup. It's a lot but I was just pointing out in reponse to the initial comment that there are cheaper monthly options to those she had been quoted.

A 10minute appointment with a specialist costs Euro150 so it is hard to imagine a Euro500 per year policy being much good.

I know. We opted to cover ourselves in the event of cancer and other chronic conditions and looking to keep monthly subs down.

Hi Lins231

I'm not sure whether your parents have sorted out their health insurance/ residency yet but my husband and I are going through the same process at the moment. We are also in Bagni di Lucca. We have bought a health insurance policy through Generali. They have an office in Fornoli (a part of Bagni di Lucca) and were very helpful, even telephoning the Ufficio Anagrafe in Bagni di Lucca to check that the policy was sufficient for the residency application. The cost was 420 Euros per person and was much cheaper than the other quotes we had received online. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I'm trying to find out about residency requirements, too. I need to find out about health insurance for a first time residency application.
On the Comune di Vicenza website it says:

EU citizens without a job:

a) annual health-insurance policy covering all risks;

I read that you found insurance for 420 Euros per person. Did you mean you pay this much a month or a year? I'm hoping (really hoping!) it's every year ahahah.

Thanks!

Hahaha! Yes it was 420 Euros per person for the year. We just had to show the policy documents to the person at the Anagrafe office when we made our application for residency. 😀

Hi imiforbes,
Me again, so sorry
I'm on the Generali site now. Did your insurance cover all risks? What did yours cover exactly?
I went onto the CIGNA site...came to about 1,000 pounds per year! AHHHHHHH. But there was a platinum option, silver and gold...and each one covered certain things...I'm wondering what kind of health problems I'm supposed to be covering. Did they tell you that at the comune?
Thanks
(Really, this whole moving thing is becoming a deeper and deeper hole...it's sounding more and more expensive the more I find out about it). The more I'm reading the more I'm thinking you need to be an aristocrat with a castle in your name and 5 acres of land.
