I had a local company come round last week and discuss putting in a new Bomblone to GPL to our cooker and boiler.
They do to systems, basically the same but one is metered and you pay for the gas as you use (billed a month later) and the other which i believe is more common where you pay for the gas up front and buy 1000 liters or however much gas you require.
My neighbour was concerned that the metered version was much more costly in the long run but i'm not sure if this is true?? I presume that as gas price always go up then you pay whatever the rate is at that time?
The rep said that the current price per liter for GPL is €0.75 + IVA - Is this inline with what you GPL users are paying?
Also, i'm told that IVA on GPL is 21% - is that correct? So, the price for our GPL would be €0.91 per liter?
Also, if i go with them i presume that i would only be able to get gas from them and not shop around for better prices?
Thanks

Our heating systme works both on wood and lpg gas but we tend to use gas just for the hot water. I just called kalor gas as we need to order some and they quoted a list price of 90cents per lt.

Last bill the price was €0.903 per lt. after our dicount as we are in the country.
We have a pellet stove for central heating as we found GPL too expensive.
Had system a few years with great service and no problems.

So the price i was quoted is about what seems to be the going rate?
Does anyone use the metered system? Must be more affordable but how much more in the long run?

House is 200mq. Heating system is divided. Can run whole house or just
downstairs. (We live downstairs with small apartment upstairs)
Heating downstairs + hot water (approx 120mq.) we find a 15kg. bag of pellets lasts about 7 to 8 hours. this obviously depends on the temperature your heater is set to run at.
A newer system will probably be more efficient.
At the moment we are paying €4.30 per bag for pellets.

House is about 80 years old with high ceilings and central heating system is quite old but works fine.

How long in the day is your boiler running for?
I presume it supply a separate cylinder for your hot water supply to the taps?

No-one has mentioned running an LPG boiler on bottled gas.
I can't offer a direct price comparison with "bombolone" since the gas is sold by kilo (10, 15, 20, 25Kg @€44x20Kg) and, although I can measure the cylinder, I can't remember how to work the PiR2H thing! In deepest Winter, at 800m, we would consume a 20Kg bottle in 8 days having the CH on 3 hours in the early morning and 3 in the evening to back-up a wood stove. It also heats the water 24/7 and from Apr to Oct a bottle will last from 30 to 45 days for unlimited hot water.
Common sense says that it is more expensive to buy gas this way but it is easier to manage in cash-flow terms, is as thermally efficient and you can always switch to "bombolone" at a later date.

Before heater was installed used gas for a few hours each evening at the beginning of winter. Over a six week period this cost us €1200.
Hence the pellet stove.
How long heating is on for depends on the weather. At the moment just in the evening.
Hot water is provided by heat exchanger - no tank.

How many Sq Metres do you have?
how high are the ceilings?
what latitude and altitude do you live at?
How many people in your family?
Is the house empty all day while everyone is at work?
Any babies or young children in the family?
These are the the main drivers for energy consumption.

House is stone, built in 50s, semi-interrato plus 1 floor plus habitable attic, totaling 180 m2 floor area; ceiling height variable, 3m at 1st floor.
At 826m in the 1st line of the Dolomites; crestline averages 2,200m within 3 hours walk from the house, and there's snow on the tops just now. Dec/Jan night-time temp is from -5 to -10.
2xpensioners resident, when we aren't shopping.
Maybe the wife is right, I'm a mean sod!
